Biography

Tim is a Scientia research fellow at the Institute for Climate Risk and Response at UNSW Sydney, where he works on understanding severe convective storms and their changes under climate change. He completed his PhD at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, in 2016. His thesis work was on the small-scale variability of precipitation, which influences interpretation of weather radar data, and the proper representation of precipitation in numerical weather models. He worked in postdoc roles at EPFL and the University of Bern, Switzerland before moving to UNSW in 2020. In his current research, he is using process-oriented studies to better understand severe storms, their formation and their responses to a changing climate. He uses high-resolution simulations, reanalysis data, and global projections to unravel the complex ways that climate change may affect severe thunderstorms and hailstorms in future.
