The 2019 annual workshop of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX) will take place from Tuesday November 19 – Thursday November 21 at the Hobart Function and Conference Centre, Hobart, Tasmania.
The workshop will discuss progress and plans in all research areas covered by the Centre, namely, climate variability; extreme rainfall; drought; and heatwaves in the climate system.

Following the main workshop, there will be an Early Career Researcher and student workshop to be held in Hobart on Friday 22 November. See below for more information.

TRANSPORT DETAILS
Please arrange your flights well in advance of the workshop to avoid increased fares closer to date. Flights will be booked in accordance with your University’s travel policy, your local node administrator will be able to help you.
Flights should to be organised for arrival in Hobart during the afternoon of Monday 18 November, and departure late in the day on Thursday 21 November or Friday 22 November if you’re attending the additional ECR Day or the separate meeting for Chief Investigators. The ECR day and CI meeting will both conclude at 3pm. Any additional nights accommodation will be at the attendee’s private expense. 

The venue is approximately a 20 minute taxi/uber ride from Hobart Airport, please try to arrange to share transport with a fellow CLEX staff or student.

ACCOMMODATION
A block booking has been made for CIs, CMS and non-research staff at Ibis Styles – a new hotel a short walk from the waterfront workshop venue. All other workshop attendees are invited to arrange their own accommodation in line with institutional travel policies, taking advantage of preferential rates when booked through your corporate travel agents. Students should book shared accommodation.

Some recommendations are listed below as a start. Hotel rooms of a reasonable standard should be available for $150-$190 a night in Hobart when booked in advance. Twin or triple share or apartment style accommodation should be available for $80-$130 per person per night.  Your node admin staff can help with individual and group bookings if you need assistance.

CATERING AND SOCIAL EVENTS
There will be an opening icebreaker with light refreshments at 6pm on Monday 18 November. 

Please advise special dietary needs at the time of registration. Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided each day and there will be a conference dinner, on the Wednesday night. A list of local restaurants will be included in the workshop handbook circulated to delegates in the lead up to the workshop.

CHILD CARE
We will be organising child care during the workshop to enable those with carer’s responsibilities to attend. If this would be of benefit to you, please provide the requested details at the appropriate point during the registration process. Once there is a clear idea of interest and numbers we will work with the parents to make suitable arrangements.
