Biography

Maya completed an integrated BSc and MSci degree in Environmental Science from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the UK, which included a year abroad at the University of Tasmania. Throughout her degree Maya explored a number of different subject areas within environmental science, but found her passion in physical and chemical oceanography after experiencing the practical observational side of research during her studies and work experience on research vessels, and more specifically polar oceanography and ice-ocean interactions since studying at the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) in Hobart. Maya aspires to continue in academia – focusing on observational oceanographic research to better understand the vast and complex systems that play a key role in regulating our climate and supporting our ecosystems.
