Biography

Scott has research interests in the statistical analysis of extreme environmental processes, such as extreme rainfall, heatwaves, wind speeds and earthquakes etc. Scott is interested in using mathematical results from extreme value theory to develop practical statistical models to model climate extremes. Coupled with computational techniques and Bayesian inferential tools, these models can provide powerful predictive and inferential methods to describe future extreme events. Scott was (jointly) awarded the 2011 Moran Medal from the Australian Academy of Science, in part for his research in extreme value theory and applications.
