As part of its graduate program the Centre of Excellence is running a series of scientific paper writing workshops.  The workshops are facilitated by Dr Peter Rothlisberg from CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere, and co-facilitated by CoE researchers. Dr Rothlisberg has run successful workshops at many universities, CSIRO and the Antarctic Division.

The workshops are a 3-day learning-by-doing event with around 25% instruction time and the rest working on a real journal paper with support from peers and mentors.

As participants will be working on a paper, the workshops will be of most benefit to those who have completed analyses to write up.

Please note that places for each workshop are limited and priority will be given to students who are further on in their candidature.

Applications are open to both students and postdocs.

Half-day workshop July 16 – Working effectively in an age of distractions

Monash University, July 16, 2019

Christian Jakob is offering a half-day workshop on “Working effectively in an age of distractions”. In this workshop you will learn how to achieve what you need to achieve in less time without making your brain spin.

For more than 20 years Christian’s has applied and modified ideas from a number of well-known systems, such as “Getting Things Done”, to work effectively in a research and academic environment. The workshop will cover ideas to help you better plan and execute your work and in doing so, avoid procrastination and stress and prevent the deterioration of your mental health. We will also introduce strategies to avoid the constant distractions of the 21st century, and some of the 20th too, and still stay in touch with the rest of the world. The workshop will be hands on and you will leave with the starting point to transform your life at work. Wouldn’t it be nice to go home an hour earlier each day with the confidence that you achieved what you needed to? It can be done. How? Come to this workshop to find out.

Please indicate in application form  if you intend to attend the half day workshop in addition to the Writing Workshop.
