This Wednesday’s CMS training will be on the Xarray python library. We’ll be covering using the library to virtually combine multiple files, calculate basic climate indices and create simple plots. Basic familiarity with Python is assumed.
The easiest way to follow along is to set up the NCI VDI virtual desktop on your computer – it has access to all the libraries and data that we’ll be using.

If you have trouble setting up VDI you can also install Xarray on your own computer using conda and access data remotely.
conda create -c conda-forge -n xarray-training python=3 xarray dask netcdf4 jupyter
