Ellie is a Malaysian, born and raised in Hong Kong, and is a PhD student in physical oceanography at UNSW Sydney, studying eddy fluxes at the Antarctic continental margin. She completed her Integrated Master of Physics degree at the University of Oxford, working on decomposing Southern Ocean winds in an idealised global ocean. She has also previously worked at Monash University on tropical convective organisation, and at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on baroclinic lifecycles of jets in the ocean.
