Chen received her PhD at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017, where she explored the seesaw between the Somali and the Maritime Continent cross-equatorial flows.
In the past she has worked with the UM model and ECHAM5 model. She is proficient in the NCAR Command Language (NCL) for data analysis and visualisation; and is familiar with Fortran and Matlab.
Working with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, Chen aims to develop the coupling correction schemes in the ACCESS climate model to reduce the mean state biases in coupled model simulations. She will then use model simulations to check the mean state changes and how they respond to a doubling of CO2 forcing.
