Biography

Ajitha completed her PhD in physical oceanography at the University of Tasmania in 2020. Her PhD research focused on small-scale processes to large-scale circulation in the southeast Indian Ocean using in-situ observations, global reanalyses and satellite products. Specifically, she concentrated on the variability of internal waves and turbulent mixing and the seasonal evolution of the mixed layer heat balance in the eastern subtropical south Indian Ocean. She is currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Tasmania, investigating the role of processes such as internal waves and turbulent mixing in a standing meander of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), a hot spot of Southern Ocean dynamics.
