Biography

Kathleen is completing her Bachelor of Advanced Science majoring in Climate System Science and her Bachelor of Environmental Engineering at UNSW. She is currently undertaking a science honours through the Climate Change Research Centre at UNSW. Kathleen is interested in how machine learning can be used to improve management of meteorological hazards and the risks associated with them. Her previous engineering honours research involved extracting location data from Australian Twitter disaster datasets. Her current research area focuses on droughts. In her research, she is building a more comprehensive tool to improve drought prediction for Australia, using machine learning techniques and drought impact reports.
