Biography
Neelesh has a background in Geophysics and Mathematics, which he studied at the University of Auckland. Neelesh then completed a master's in Physics where he used artificial intelligence to study clouds over the Southern Ocean. After university, he worked as a Data Scientist in several start-ups before joining NIWA as a Data Scientist for 3 years and continues to be affiliated with NIWA throughout his Ph.D. Neelesh is extremely passionate about artificial intelligence and believes that there are many unexplored applications in climate science. Neelesh's research project is: "Combining Physics and Artificial Intelligence—A hybrid model for actionable climate projections". Neelesh's research will be investigating whether artificial intelligence can provide higher-resolution climate projections at a fraction of the computational cost.
