Biography

After completing a BSc (Honours) in Applied Mathematics at Monash University, Mike spent many years practising as an Actuary in consultancies and general insurance corporates both in Australia and in the UK. He completed a Master of Philosophy at UNSW in 2020, including coursework in Climate Science and Oceanography and thesis in ocean dynamics associated with El Niño teleconnections in the south Indian Ocean. Prior to enrolling in a PhD at UNSW in late 2022, he collaborated in research relating to the Indonesian Throughflow and its role in ocean circulation & water-mass transformation. His PhD interests include tropical to higher latitude teleconnections and their influences on large-scale atmospheric/ocean/sea-ice variability.
