The modelling program has now settled in with weekly MOM/COSIMA meetings while working with other research programs on projects that will continue to improve our models and the way we use them in our research. This work has extended to industry and peer network stakeholders.
The ocean extremes research program is underway with regular meetings, split between marine heatwaves meetings on the first Friday of the month and ocean biogeochemistry meetings every fortnight. We have also been engaging externally with industry stakeholders and our peer networks.
The discovery of changing eddy energy was made by a team of ANU and UNSW researchers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes. Their work, published today in Nature Climate Change, shows clear changes to the distribution and strength of these eddies, which had not been previously detected.
Using novel ocean glider technology, a team of researchers from France, Norway, and Australia observed small eddy-like lenses of cold water in July 2017 along the western Svalbard shelf in the Arctic.
