The "WCRP-CLIVAR Workshop on Climate Interactions among the Tropical Basins" was held online on February 24-26, 2021. It was the first workshop organised by the CLIVAR Tropical Basin Interaction group, with logistic assistance from the US CLIVAR Project Office and UCAR, as well as financial support from NOAA and NSF.

This year’s annual workshop, held in Hobart, brought together complex science, explainers, breakout meetings and poster sessions in a way that was perhaps the most accessible yet. It's set a very high bar for next year's annual workshop.

The past four months have seen the Centre very active in the media as extreme heat, fires and drought start early in the season. We have also played an important role in communicating IPCC reports, examining the science behind policy and building up our Instagram feed.

Workshop Scope The Bureau of Meteorology Annual R&D Workshop 2019 will provide a forum for national and international researchers, including researchers from across the Bureau, CSIRO, industry and our university partners, to communicate innovations and advances in sciences related to weather, water, ocean and climate services. In early February 2019 an international cohort of around 40 oceanographers, marine biogeochemists and climate modellers gathered at UNSW to discuss the use of the Water Mass Transformation (WMT) framework for studies of ocean physics, biogeochemistry and climate. The workshop was an initiative of several CLEX early career researchers and gained interest from a diverse international community.

Two workshops, the Sea Ice Modelling Workshop and Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes “Southern Annular Mode (SAM) Cluster” workshop were held together at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies in Hobart from February 19-21.

The Extreme Rainfall Research Program of the Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX) held a workshop on October 4 at the University of New South Wales (Sydney). There were 30 participants representing the CLEX nodes, Bureau of Meteorology, CSIRO, NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and National Centre for Atmospheric Research.
