For four weeks in May and June this year, Maurice Huguenin was fortunate enough to take part in an oceanographic research voyage aboard CSIRO’s RV Investigator from Hobart to Brisbane.
From November 13-December 17, 2019, Sonny Truong took part in an observational voyage aboard the RV Investigator 30kms off the coast of Darwin. It was a voyage that featured some firsts for this atmospheric scientists and resulted in some great research and a spectacular time-lapse video of a storm forming and dissipating out to sea.
Sometimes there is so much to look back on that it can be difficult to know where to begin and that is definitely the case for the past three months of a very active Extreme Rainfall research program.
In May this year, Maxime Marin with a team from CLEX took part in the International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE 2) aboard the RV Investigator. With good weather most of the way, it was an experience he recalls with great fondness.

It has been a very active time for the Climate Variability and Teleconnections Research Program in terms of research and engagement activities right across the team, including two expeditions - one drilling coral cores in the tropics and another going south to the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.
The RV Investigator returned to Hobart after a 32-day voyage to map a meander of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) Polar Front. Onboard were 11 CLEX students and postdocs; three international students; a film maker and visual artist; and collaborators from CSIRO, Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
